Because of the blizzard now hitting the Washington coast, the University of Seattle has decided to postpone my visit to a later date. I’ll post the rescheduled date as soon as we have one. Sorry.

…at least that’s what I read in the L.A. Times:

Recently I was given a unique opportunity to tour the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia. During my tour I had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Ali Khan, the Director of the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response, as well as the creative team behind their new zombie preparedness outreach program. My experience was as comforting as it was terrifying. The comfort came from seeing how intelligent, organized and proactive the CDC’s efforts are both at home and around the world. The terror came from the revelation that these efforts are now under fire from our own government. In the new political climate of deficit reduction and budget slashing, the CDC has watched its resources shrink by roughly one third. At a time when the global population is exploding, national borders are fading, and the existential threat of disease has never been greater, our first and best line of defense is being dismantled.

Random House has just put together an online clearinghouse for pretty much everything zombie I’ve done over the years, including updates on new material that will be coming soon.
For a while now, Thomas Tull (Legendary Entertainment) and I have been kicking around an idea about a movie that takes place at the Great Wall of China (not to be confused with my short zombie WWZ story ‘Great Wall’). Now it looks like Ed Zwick (Glory, Last Samurai) is interested in developing the project.

I just spent a few hours on the set of World War Z. I confess I didn’t get a chance to see much. The sheer size of each setup (it’s massive), as well as the uncooperative weather, didn’t allow for very many shots. I also got a chance to meet some of the zombies; the fresh, newly infected, not that much different than humans kind. While I’m still largely in the dark concerning the overall story, it was reassuring to hear from Brad Pitt and Marc Forster that their goal is to make a smart, deep, geopolitical movie. I trust their talent and their intentions and I look forward to seeing what they come up with.

On a side note, the picture comes from a T-shirt I bought at the Piper Pub right next to the set.
It’s official, World War Z is deep into production and now Paramount has slated it to be released on 12/21/2012
A few weeks ago, I was asked to speak at Pitzer College, my old Alma Mater.
It was a hell of an honor.
